Most beautiful spot at the sea and beautiful roadtrips

South of the island is way to touristic

Itinerary Overview

We went on a 8 day trip to Gran Canaria trying to escape from most tourists. We found a beautiful spot in the north west of the island where you could watch the most beautiful sunsets. Then we headed for some day trips to beautiful little villages and ended in the mountain region in a beautiful spot from where we could make some nice trips for hikes.

  • 5 Nights: Galdar - Puerto de Sardina
Small cities and capital both close by
  • 2 Nights: La Fortaleza de Ansite
    Nice hike

I would totally recommend to stay close to Puerto de Sardina as it is one of the most calm and beautiful places I have been. Especially on a touristic island like Gran Canaria it is difficult to find a place that is not full of tourists. You definitely want to rent a car for your stay so that you are free to visit whatever places you feel like and the car rental agencies aren't too expensive either.

We went for day trips to Las Palmas and also took some surfing lessons there (be aware that it is surfing close to the coast lines, so that you will fall often in the sand). In the close by town of Galdar you can find nice restaurants and bars.

When you go for road trips in your car you will come by beautiful villages with amazing views (like Mogan) where you can stop for a nice lunch or some tapas.

Beautiful little space with own kitchen and own patio. Really romantic place (maybe a little over the top, haha). Walking distance to nice little town where you can do groceries. And close to Pico de las Nieves where you can do a nice hike.

Also we spent the last two nights of our trip here before we returned back home. The distance to the airport is also really fine.

Would definitely come back here because the nature all around and the beautiful views already on the way to the location are so stunning that we took multiple breaks just to look at the beautiful nature and surroundings.

Q & A

  • What would you have changed?

We went for a day trip to visit the "desert" in the south of the island, I wouldn't do this again. It is beautiful, but there are just too many people and everything is prepared for tourists.
  • Anything go wrong during the trip?

Not really, only the surfing lesson ended in a bruised foot because the practive was so close to the shore.
  • Restaurant recommendations?

Restaurante Agaldar, in a hotel with really nice food! (in Galdar)
  • Tips you would give a friend?

Go for hikes and skip the big cities. Rent a car and make it your own trip, stop whereever you like the view.
  • Packing tips?

Hiking shoes, sunglasses, jacket for the evenings
  • Transportation Tips?

    Rent a car.
  • Any surprises?

Don' be surprised by the amount of people when you go to bigger, more touristic, cities.

Lodging

  • Historic Charming house with beautiful views of Teide We found this place on booking.com and it's the most beautiful place to stay at. Beautiful view of the sea and the sunset. Very calm space with an outside living room (the balcony), an own kitchen and the host even got us nice fruit and some food.

  • Romantic Casa Rural La Molinera- beautiful little space with own kitchen and walking distance to little town
