Watching the sun set over the lake while eating dinner and listening to music
The prices of food and drink were quite high compared to other areas of the Lake District.
Itinerary Overview
We arrived in Bowness in the afternoon and checked into our sweet little B&B in amongst the locals houses. From there we got ready and wandered through the streets deciding where to have our first drink! We chose Bodega, a Spanish tapas bar and restaurant, where we enjoyed some amazing mojitos served by super friendly Spanish staff. From there we headed down to the lake front, and arrived at our reservation for the evening, The Boardwalk. Our table was outside on a veranda overlooking the lake, so we got to watch the magical sunset! Food, drink and service was all superb!
After dinner we took a walk around the lake to soak up the last of the setting sun and enjoy the views, before grabbing one last drink at Boaters Bar.
The next morning we walked down to the lake and paddled in the water, before enjoying a picnic on the jetty. The sun was shining and good music was playing, a perfect end to the perfect night away.

Bowness-on-Windermere Our dinner reservation was here, a truly beautiful location right on the lake
Service was amazing (Boardwalk Bar and Grill), we were given a table on the outdoor veranda overlooking the lake, where we could watch the sun set and the swans swim freely. Both our drinks and food arrived quickly and tasted amazing, we chose a number of small plates to share, including cauliflower bites, Thai salad and salt and pepper squid.

Boaters Bar Another bar on the edge of the lake with stunning views and a great drinks selection
Boaters is a super friendly, open plan bar that hosts many music nights and social events. It is designed for both couples and groups and has a really relaxed but fun environment. The service is quick and the staff always have great drinks recommendations. We tried frozen daiquiri of the month and a cosmopolitan, but beware, the drinks are strong!!
The view is not to be missed, and can be enjoyed from the balcony to the rear of the building, or from one of the many outdoor tables.
While we didn’t get food here, I have heard their pizza menu is amazing!
Q & A
What would you have changed?
Being more organised and booking a place for breakfast the next morning. We didn’t expect everywhere to be so booked up!Restaurant recommendations?
Bodega for mojitos and tapas, Boaters for pizza and innovative drinks, Boardwalk for the amazing views and varied menu and BAHA, for a fresh take on pan Asian dishes.Tips you would give a friend?
Be prepared to spend a little more. Cocktails are around £10 each and food is pricier than in the surrounding area but it’s definitely worth it!Booking details?
Book restaurants in advance! Bowness is very popular for dining at all times in the day, even early morning, so definitely make reservations to avoid disappointment.
