Highs & Lows

The Jacuzzis, Valley of crystals and Mirador la ventana are the most impressive that can be seen at the top of the mountain

Some days it rained a lot so we made it difficult to cross the rivers as there weren't bridges

Itinerary Overview

We were a group of 4 people traveling by bicycle, we left Brazil for Venezuela with little fear for everything they had told us, because Venezuela was not going through a good political and economic moment.

We crossed the border without any problem, it took two days on a bicycle to San Francisco de Yuruaní, which is the closest community to Monte Roraima, where the natives are, most of whom are tourist guides because they know this region well.

In this community we had the opportunity to meet the natives, the culture and something very particular about them is that they have their native language called taurepan and also speak Spanish

Já tivemos o contato de um guia nativo muito bem recomendado por outros viajantes, que se encarregariam de nos levar ao Monte Roraima, passamos dias incríveis em sua casa com sua linda família.

6 day- trek

on the first day we decided to leave the San Francisco community until the entrance to the park of Mount Roraima by bicycle. were 30 kilometers of paths with steep and degraded climbs, which left us very exhausted, without energy and well delayed to start the Trekking(I recommend going in a van or motorcycle). Even arriving late we started the 6 hour hike to the first camp. We set up our tents and ate and slept.

The next day we did a 6 hour hike and we had to cross two rivers that day were fuller than usual and with very strong currents, because it had rained a lot on the mountain, both had no bridges to cross them.

We had to wait all morning for the first river to go down a bit, it was very difficult and time consuming because the river current was very strong, our guide was of great help because he knew the place very well. And the second river in the late afternoon was the last obstacle of the day, because after crossing it was the second camp that we spent the night.

The next day we had to walk faster than the previous days, as we were late and had the objective of reaching the top of the mountain that same day. The path was incredible, because every time we approached the base of the mountain, the landscape changed from hills with dry and low vegetation to a small forest of tall trees with very intense colors and small waterfalls with crystal clear waters.

In the middle of that day we could already touch the wall of Monte Roraima and we started to cross "el paso de Las lagrimas",it was one of the most difficult obstacles that we had, because they were steep paths with many big stones, which normally fell small drops of water from the wall but when we passed it had rained so what would just be drops became a waterfall.

luckily we kept going up until we finally reached the summit, there was a viewpoint at the entrance with an incredible view of the kukenan waterfall. Then we went looking for a place to sleep and managed to put our tents in a cave and thus rest from the ten hours of hiking that we had done.

The next day we went to visit some very interesting places like the valley of the crystals that are thousands of white quartz crystals of different sizes and shapes and others are embedded in huge rocks.

Anthropomorphic Stones: there are several stones with shapes that resemble people or animals one of the most famous is the flying turtle.

Endemic plants, some that only exist on the summit of Monte Roraima, There were also ferns, carnivorous bromeliads and many species of orchids.

And finally we went to Mirante la ventana which is one of the most incredible views to behold, but unfortunately it was very cloudy we couldn't see much.

The next day we had to return, it took two days to get to the exit of the park, as the paths were downhill and the rivers were drier.
