Highs & Lows
I got the opportunity to see a lot of new places.
I wish I had more time to explore better all of the places
Itinerary Overview
My parents and I really wanted to discover new places, around those days it was my father’s birthday and for celebrating it we decided to go on a cruise on the Baltic Sea. We travelled from Bogotá to Barcelona, and from Barcelona to Helsinki, Finland where the cruise was going to set sail from, the flight was about 4 hours long and the views during the flight were amazing because we were able to see mountains with snow on the top, I had never seen something like that in person, I think I’ll never forget it!
We stayed in Helsinki for three days before going on the cruise. It is a beautiful city with amazing landscapes everywhere and great food, especially sea food.
The cruise was amazing, it was really big, had a lot of activities to do, lots of delicious food, shows and entertainment; the ship had a pool on the deck, but no one used it because although it was summer time, the weather was really cold.
The cities we were going to visit where: San Petersburg, Russia; Stockholm, Sweden and finally we were going to disembark in a port on Germany where we were going to travel by train to Berlin. The itinerary of the cruise had planned two days of navigation, which means that it is going to be all day in the middle of the sea and it is not going to stop anywhere during those days.
All of the cities we visted were so different one to the other that it made the experience even better! It was awesome to try new types of food, learn about different cultures and countries, see different landscapes and hear people speak different languages almost every day during a week.
Finally we disembark on Germany, and went to berlin where we stayed for a few days and then travelled by plane to Barcelona and went back to Bogotá.
I am not sure how I pictured Finland before going, but it was really different of how I imagined, it is a big city with amazing views. Helsinki was a little bit cold, cloudy and windy, but we really enjoyed it. The food is really nice, we went to an street market called Market Square and there were a lot of options for everyone. We took a ride on a boat that take you around to see some little islands nearby where some people live, the views where great, I loved to see the houses on the small islands, and having the opportunity to see the sunset there was so beautiful. I am really glad we had a little bit more time there.
We had never been to Russia before, it was great, despite it was only one day. For making the most out of the little time we had there, we took the hop on – hop off bus, which helped us to see a lot of places and learn about their history in a short period of time. We visited the Hermitage Museum which was amazing but we did not stayed for a long time because we wanted to enjoy the most the city, not just one place. It was really nice to see the Rivers and canals of St. Petersburg while we were on the bus and walking arount the city.
I think my favourite place we visited was Stockholm, it is a beautiful city, with really kind and happy people, it is really clean, it is almost perfect. We took the hop on - hop off bus in Stockholm too, but we also walked around a lot and learn lots of things about the city, the history and for me the most interesting thing was that we learned about the “Stockholm syndrome”, it has this name due to a robbery that happened on a bank there, people were held hostage for about 6 days, but they had developed a bond with their captor and trusted him. We also visited the Nobel Prize Museum and it was great!
