Itinerary Overview
I made this trip with my friends to have a few days of good food, good conversation, and quality time.
Bordeaux is a beautiful place full of magic and many ways to enjoy it.
The Dune du Pilat is about a hours drive from Bordeaux. It is the largest sand dune in Europe.
Of course, all shops are closed. To go up on the dune, the wooden staircase has been dismantled. You have to climb directly up the sand. Admittedly, it is a bit sporty, but it is rather easy to do. And then, as it is cold, we are quickly warmed up...
Arrived at the top, with hardly anyone, it is just splendid. We can even appreciate the calm of the place!
On the other hand, the car park is not free, but you have to pay a small fee proportional to the equipment, i.e. just the access to the toilets. But it is possible to park further along the roadside for free.
As the dune faces due west, it is the perfect place to enjoy the magnificent sunsets of the south-west.
This area is normally very touristy so the best time to enjoy it is out of season.
One of the best bars/restaurants in Bordeaux. The cuisine of great finesse, seasonal products, the play of textures and flavors. Many of the products come from a garden (grown in permaculture) belonging to the owner and are from Bordeaux. Around 25€ for lunch and 50€ in the evening.
On the bar side, he imitates the "speakeasy" style (the name given to hidden bars during American prohibition) by entering it bypassing behind a large clock at the back of the restaurant. sophisticated and tasty mixology made by passionate people. Cocktails cost around 11€. The choice of spirits is perhaps one of the best in France!
Famous submarine base used by the Italians during the Second World War. Today transformed into an art museum and gallery. Exhibitions are free or at a very low cost. The space is huge and contributes to a special atmosphere that emerges from the different works of artists. Special mention for the sound and light exhibitions which are extraordinary.
There is free parking next door
