Not seeing any penguins after waiting for hours in the cold at dusk into the evening
Itinerary Overview
We flew into Hobart and then picked up our van which we rented through Camplify (would highly recommend - it’s like Airbnb but then for campervans). As we were seeking a nature-hit we did not spend much time in Hobart. We started our trip in Bruny Island and then headed to Mount Field National Park.

1+We were hoping to see penguins at dusk/evening (Penguin Viewing Platform). We stayed there for ages but unfortunately we did not see any, and it was cold! The red lights on our torches were not strong enough. You cannot shine your normal torch light on the beach because it will confuse the penguins and they might go in the wrong direction.
The next day we did the best hike of the whole trip which is the Fluted Cape Walk. It’s a challenging work but so worth it!
Mount Field National Park Wildlife and nature
1+We saw a lot of wildlife from the campsite such as pademelons and quolls. You also have access to many easy and beautiful walks (Russell Falls, Horseshoe Falls, Tall Trees Walk). The glowworm walk at night is very fun (if there are not too many people around.

Tips you would give a friend?
Do the Fluted Cape Walk in the opposite direction. You will have the most dramatic views and beat the crowds.Packing tips?

Lodging
We stayed overnight at the Penguin View location where there is a carpark and public bathrooms.
We stayed overnight at the Mount Field Campground. It’s a basic campsite in the middle of nature. The hot showers are most definitely a plus!
