Highs & Lows

Being able to spend so much time in the country.

It was a little bit colder than I was used to.

Itinerary Overview

This trip was truly a once in a lifetime opportunity, it was unbelievable in every aspect. I had the chance to go on an exchange trip for a little over a month, spending time with a family in their home, and even go to school.

I would be staying in Truro, Nova Scotia for the following weeks. This is a lovely small town by Halifax with all the quaintness of the suburbs. Staying here meant I got to eat amazing homemade food, get acquainted with the roads and all the amazing houses. What I loved most was that just a few minutes’ walk away from the main roads you could find the lovely Salmon River. This allowed us to take a rest from everything else and just relax by the water; another place to do this was Victoria Park, once again just a few minutes from downtown. The feeling of heading over to the town, have fun at the mall or go to the movies with family and friends was great. This town gave me a wonderful home for a few weeks.

While staying in Truro, they took me out of town a couple of times to visit nearby towns and enjoy. One of these spots was Melmerby Beach over by Pictou, just a drive away. It was a lovely day, driving through the country, stopping by Tim Hortons for some snacks and just admiring the views. Even though the weather didn’t cooperate, and it was quite cloudy, we had the time of our lives running into the water and away from it once the waves caught up with us. It truly was a lovely sight and a surprise to me at that time of year.

Another great daytrip they took me on a nice drive over to Lunenburg. This lovely place stands by the harbor on the Fairhaven Peninsula and it’s a gorgeous town. The soft colored buildings and the water just take you on a dream. This, along with the replica of the Canadian ship seen on the Canadian dime -the Bluenose Schooner- make it a trip you’ll remember. There are great restaurants to stop in by the harbor, eating some great fish or trying the locally produces spirits. If you’re up for it you can even sign up for a sailing class, to have some deckhand experience on some of the greatest boats by the shore.
