Itinerary Overview
Kefalonia is one of many greek islands that ist not that popular and therefore a really nice experience. It has lots of marvelous beaches with turquoise water, good restaurants, very friendly people and of course nice weather. If u want to have a beautiful summer trip with places that are not that crowded like lots of other famous beaches than Kefalonia is definitely is a good choice.
Our first stop was Atheras in the north of the island which is approximately 1 h by car from the main city Argostoli. It is a quiet little village with a very nice beach and also a spot for sailors. We stayed at an AirBnb which was run by a woman who is spending her vacation together with her other 3 siblings at a farm. The Family was very welcoming, invited us to greek dinner, showed us how to dance zeibeikiko and we even did a little party together with them and other people from the village directly at the beach. Not to forget the fresh figs we ate very day that were growing from their own fig trees and of course the delicious homemade white wine. That Airbnb is a real treasure.
Another very beautiful beach, that is also really not touristy is called Fteri Beach that you also can only reach by walking through the forest and climbing down a big hill. U will have to take your time to get to the place and be adventurous because there is no real prepared road to get to the beach but it is definitely worth it. Once we get there, there have been only two other ppeople that were at the place so we had a lot of privacy at a really big beach. I recommend to take food, parasol and hiking shoes such as a hat are good tools for this trip because you will need to take your time to enjoy Fteri Beach.
One day we went to a little town called Fiskardo which is a really cosy and cute little place to see. It was approximately 1h by car from our Airbnb in Atheras and apparently a well known tourist sport. Anyways that didn't take the charm of the place. It was still very nice to walk around the city port and sit down for coffee. You will also find lots of shops with handmade stuff like handbags, ceramics, food and many more things. We sit down for a little break and had delicious pita with Gyros with a awesome view on the city's little port where you can watch lots of Yachts.
