Itinerary Overview
We spent almost 2 weeks making our way from Melbourne to Adelaide and back again to Melbourne. This Trip included for sure the great ocean Road and also the Grampians National Park which I would highly recommend. As you’ll always be close to the ocean along this Trip I would recommend getting a surfboard to go surfing whenever you want! We made our way up to Adelaide where we stayed for one night before heading to Kangaroo Island. Here we stayed for 2 Nights, as the Ferry with our van was really expensive and we wanted to make the most of it. Our way back led us through the hinterland with empty roads and hidden towns, until we reached Melbourne again where we stayed for 2 months in total because we also worked there. During this trip we always stayed at free camping spots which are often just parking lots at the beach or in the forest but totally fine.
This Island Not far from the coast of Adelaide might not be so popular with backpackers or tourists but this makes it also a Special aim for some travelers. Here you can experience Australian Wildlife and nature in a very quiet and peaceful Environment. There are different Animal sanctuaries to visit, for example, the Seal Bay Conservation Center. In general, you can observe a lot of wild animals in their Natural Habitat. Besides that, the different national parks on the Island, like the Flinders Chase National Park offer beautiful nature and views. A Must-do are the Remarkable Rocks, Rock formations with red stone, and Just stunning architecture. We stayed in a Camping Site close to the Ferry Terminal on the First Night and the Second night at a free camping Site (basically a parking lot close to the sea), of which you can find many all over Australia.
Definitely my favorite City in Australia or even all over the world until now. As I stayed there for a longer period of time I rented an Airbnb for 2 months in the District of Fitzroy which also became my favorite Part of the City, as it is the district where most of the students live. You can find a lot of Restaurants, Bars, and Cafés, all with a hip and Alternative vibe, as well as Vintage shops and other nice shops. If you want to spend a day at the beach, just head to Brighton Beach and enjoy a day in the sun. Several markets and Shopping Malls invite for a stroll on rainy days. One really nice thing about Melbourne: Public transport within the inner Circle of the City Center is for free! In total, I would say that Melbourne has probably Not so Many touristic attractions as Sydney, but is for sure the nicest City for living.
