Laguna parón is an incredible place to visit.
The altitude of the city affected me a lot, I felt tired and dizzy so I wasn't able to visit many places.
Itinerary Overview
To discover the many attractions of the Huascarán National Park, Huaraz is the city where most tourists stay, where there are many options for hotels and hostels and most of them are in the city center.
There are also many agencies, especially in the vicinity of Plaza de Armas that offer various tours. The main tours offered are: Llanganuco Lagoon, Laguna 69, Laguna Parón, Pastoruri Glacier, Chavín de Huantar Ruins and many more places.
huaraz is 3,800 meters above sea level. the city is located between two mountains, blanca and negra is a city with the best views i have ever seen, because from the hotel window on a sunny day you can see many mountains, from from 5,530 meters to 6,395 meters. the climate in huaraz stands out for having sunny days and cold nights.
To go to Huaraz from Lima there is the option of going by flight that takes about an hour to arrive at a small airport, located in the town of Anta, which takes about 20 minutes of travel in a taxi to get to Huaraz. Traveling by land takes approximately six to seven hours, and covers 400 kilometers, it is a path of many climbs and curves, so you can get a little dizzy in the city.
In Huaraz there is a large amount of services for the traveler and the hiker, all types of accommodation, restaurants, shops and many independent local agencies and Trekking in the Huáscarán national park. There is a possibility of trekking for several days, but there are also shorter ones for those who don't have so much time and energy.
Laguna Parón Considered to be the largest lagoon in the Cordillera Blanca, it is located at an altitude of 4185 meters above sea level, with 76 meters of depth in a green turquoise freshwater color. the viewpoint you can see the mountains like; Garcilaso pyramid, the huandoys, artesonraju, aguja and caraz. As the lagoon is within the Huascarán National Park, you must pay an entrance fee that costs 5 soles.
To get to this lagoon, we hire a service from an agency located in the city center, where there are several options. We went in a truck that took us to the entrance of the lagoon but before arriving, the road from Huaraz to Parón is incredible, we passed through some beautiful villages and then we climbed many mountains, until we reached the side of the snow-capped mountains.
When we first arrived we went to the Mirante, a 40-minute climb with a path of small and large stones. At times I was lacking in oxygen due to the altitude of the place. Then we went down to the lagoon and it was a little cloudy, there were boats and kayaks to rent to go around the lagoon.
Our tour was a morning, but you can spend a night it is the perfect place for camping, there is a restaurant and bathroom if you need it.
Q & A
What would you have changed?
I had spent more time in the city to get to know other lagoons and did the tour on the pastoruri glacier, but the attitude of the place affects me a lot.Anything go wrong during the trip?
The bus trip to Huaraz was very difficult because the road had many climbs and curves so I got really dizzy. And the height of the city affects me a lot because I wasn't used to it, I was always tired, I almost couldn't walk. Of the five days I was in the city, only one day I went to visit a tourist attraction in Laguna parón and the other days I stayed at the hostel because I felt very tired.Tips you would give a friend?
The best time to go is from May to September, the dry season, when there is more guarantee of clear and sunny days.
