Highs & Lows

Going off season means no crowds and still enjoying the beautiful weather

The roads are very narrow and bendy and there are plenty of cyclists so you have to be very careful when driving

DAY 1
After arrival we picked up the car at the airport and drove for lunch at Restaurant de Parada del Mar. We followed that by a visit at Fundacio Miro Mallorca. I would recommend this place if you're a Miro fan but also if you're a fan of beautiful architecture and stunning landscapes. Apart from being able to see Miro art, you get so visit the studio and the gardens. Very inspiring! After that, we hopped on a car and drove to Deia - which was our base where we booked a hotel.

DAY2
The next day we spend mostly exploring Deia and Valldemossa. They are absolutely charming and filled with lovely little shops and cafes, and...tourists. Of course, we contributed to the crowd but if both places got a bit crowded in October, I can only imagine how busy they must be in high season. Still, totally worth a visit and my favourite places in Mallorca. In the evening, we had dinner at the amazing Es Taller restaurant in Valldemossa. The place is totally worth a visit for every foodie though if you can, book a table in advance as it's a popular restaurant, and it might be difficult to get a table without a reservation.
If you're into hiking, definitely check out hiking routes around this neck of the woods. We didn't really have time for it but when I did the research prior to the trip, the views looked amazing! Related: Hikes in Europe.

DAY 3
We spent our last full day in Mallorca exploring Soller and Port de Soller and to be honest I think this is not a must do when in Mallorca. While Port de Soller is a charming coastal village, there really isn't anything special to it. It looks like any other coastal village with extremely touristy restaurants next to the port, the ones with menus in 10 different languages, pictures of food and mediocre food and service. Taking the historical, wooden tram from Soller to Port de Soller was fun and probably a highlight of the day. Though be prepared for crowds. You pay 9EUR for a one way ticket and the journey takes approx 12 minutes. You can just hop on in Soller and pay on board by card of cash.

DAY4
On the last day we explored Palma de Mallorca though we didn't have time to go into any museums, etc so we went for a long walk and admired the great architecture from the outside. It's a lovely city and I'd really like to go back to have at least a day or two just for Palma. If you're looking for a place to grab a coffee and a pastry, we totally recommend Fika Farina - one of the best cinnamon buns of my life!

Q & A

  • What would you have changed?

I would skip Port de Soller. It feels very touristy and lacks the authentic vibe. If you have ever been to one of the port towns anythwere in Europe, you won't miss a thing!

  • Restaurant recommendations?

Es Taller in Valldemossa is a must for every foodie! Make sure you book your table ahead of time as it's a popular place.

Restaurant de Parada del Mar - great fish/seafood restaurant in Palma de Mallorca. Very close to Fundacio Miro Mallorca so if you're going there, it's probably great to pop in to this restaurant for lunch.

Fika Farina in Palma de Mallorca - wonderful cinnamon buns and a great coffee!

  • Tips you would give a friend?

If you're only going for a few days, it's probably best to stay in one location and just explore from your base. Mallorca isn't really that big.

  • Transportation Tips?

It's best to rent a car but only if you're an experienced driver. Rent a small car with a powerful engine instead of a SUV. Roads are narrow and bendy and parking spaces are very tight.

  • Booking details?

We booked everything on Booking.com (hotel and a car).
