Itinerary Overview
On the first day, I went to the palais Longchamp which is a park with a fountain located in the city center.
I walked down the Canebière to reach the old port
You can take the tramway or walk there, it would take around 20mins.
I walked around the old port, where you can find many good restaurants and cafe on both side of the port.
I kept going on the left hand side to reach the fort saint Jean. The views are incredible, overlooking the sea.
From there I headed to the Mucem (museum of civilization of Europe and the Mediterranean) where they have different exhibitions. It is a 10mins walk from the fort saint jean.
For lunch we headed to the panier which is the oldest areas of Marseille.
It's a typical area and there is a lot of local restaurants and local shops where you can find soap of Marseille, one of the most natural and popular soap from France.
One the second day, I headed to the basilica Notre dame de la garde. It's the most well known symbol and it's called by local people "la bonne mère".
It's on top of a cliff and overlooking the whole city.
From there we took a bus to the vallon des auffes.
It's a small port with a few restaurants. We are a pizza at "Chez Jeannot" and spent the afternoon swimming in the Mediterranean sea. To reach the sea there, you need to walk through some rocks so I advice to take good shoes. On the evening we watch a magical sunset.
