Highs & Lows
Our spa experiences, the restaurants/bars/shops around Tulum Beach, and exploring all the unique hotels.
The beaches had a good amount of seaweed when we went, but this is typically seasonal, and weather related.
Itinerary Overview

Tulum Beach time, exploring Tulum Beach and the hotels, Tulum Mayan Ruins, Spas
Day 1
- Relaxed at the beach at our hotel
- Breakfast & Lunch at The Real Coconut (restaurant at our hotel) https://www.therealcoconut.com/
- Dinner was at Macando, which is located at the Nomade hotel https://nomadetulum.com/hotel/macondo
Day 2
- Breakfast at Raw Love, which is a 100% gluten-free, dairy-free juice bar and a little under 10 min. walk from out hotel https://www.rawlovekitchen.com/menu
- Spa appointments at Ya’an Wellness Spa – this was amazing! Such a beautiful spa with relaxing pools you can use before your appointment.
- Dinner was at Hartwood, which is typically everyone’s favorite restaurant in the area, however, by the end of the trip we felt like there were other restaurants and meals we liked better! So, if you can’t get in, it’s definitely not the end of the world 😊 The walk-in wait can sometimes be around 2-3 hours.
Day 3
- Visited the Tulum Mayan Ruins, which was about a 20 min. cab ride from our hotel. It was amazing to see the historic ruins located on a bluff overlooking the ocean!
- Dinner was at Gitano Tulum, a fun outdoor restaurant in the “jungle”. Later in the evening it turned into a dance party with a DJ! https://grupogitano.com/gitanotulum-about/
Day 4
- Rode bikes (from our hotel) down to Matcha Mama, which offers vegan smoothies and acai bowls out of a small, cute little shop with swings to sit in.
- For the rest of the afternoon we explored the hotels and shops along Tulum Beach. My favorite hotels to walk through were Casa Malca, BE Tulum, and Nomade. Azulik is a beautifully unique “treehouse-style” hotel, however, its closed to the public. You are only able to walk through if you have reservations at the restaurant or spa.
- Dinner was at Casa Jaguar https://www.casajaguartulum.com/casa-jaguar
Day 5
- We started our day with yoga at our hotel, which is a beautiful room that overlooks the ocean.
- Later in the day we had spa appointments at the Azulik hotel. I had a facial and massage and my mom did a massage and spiritual cleansing. This was probably one of the best experiences from our trip! The hotel is like nothing I had ever seen before and is absolutely incredible. I recommend arriving an hour early to use the hot tub which overlooks the ocean and the rest of the hotel. If you can, be sure to check out the yoga room as well!
- Dinner was at the Rosa Negra and was surprisingly one of our favorite meals of the whole trip! It had a fun, lively environment and they even offered free glasses of champagne after leaving the restroom.
Day 6
- We were supposed to check out the cenotes this day but decided to stay at our hotel to relax instead. I definitely recommend visiting a cenote though, which is unique to the Tulum area.
- Just before sunset, we ventured back to the Azulik hotel for drinks and dinner at Kin Toh. This was absolutely breathtaking and we enjoyed our pre-dinner cocktails in one of the communal “nests” above the jungle.
Q & A
Transportation Tips?
Talk to your hotel about arranging transportation from the airport since its about a two-hour drive from Cancun.Restaurant recommendations?
The food was AMAZING! So fresh and healthy and if you have food allergies or preferences (such as avoiding gluten or dairy) its very easy to navigate! The hotel has a delicious restaurant called The Real Coconut that has gluten-free, grain-free, dairy-free, and other healthy options!Any surprises?
At just about every hotel, restaurant, or bar in the jungle you aren't allowed to flush the toilet paper! This was a surprise to me since I hadn't read any blogs or websites that talked about this.
