Itinerary Overview
During this trip we wanted to experience the Italian way of living and to get a good taste of La Dolce Vita. We had the pleasure to meet many local people and also see some amazing cities. We also managed to taste some delicious Italian pasta and phenomenal coffee. All in all we stayed at one place in Mondello, which is the City close to Palermo that has a beach, because Palermo city only has a port and you can not go swimming there. From that Airbnb we also drove to other places around the island that are really beautiful.
Mondello was our first place and the location of our Airbnb which was a very beautiful mansion with a lovely garden full of lemon trees. The owners were very kind and as proper Italians they asked us very time they met us of we already ate. They also served us delicious Gelo di melone - it's a typical south Italian dessert. From the Airbnb we walked 10 min to the beach which is very nice, with clear water, lots of nice bars and cafes. An insider tip is to try to get a little bit further than the actual beach to enjoy some more privacy and have a relaxed beach time. Also for lunch time there is a famous place called bar touring which has nice sicilian food such as Arancinas, pane con panelle and sweets like canolli.
Marsala is most known for its liquor that you can use for tiramisu but the city is really worth visiting. It has a small but beautiful old town with a lot of nice fish restaurants you have to try out since it is a port city that offers lots of fresh fish. If you stay in Palermo for example it's very easy to get to Marsala by bus so it could be nice to go there in the morning and after take a ferry to the beautiful island called Favignana. Rent some bikes and have a tour to one of the greatest beaches I have seen so far. If Favignana is not an option another thing which is also nice was to see the sunset at the famous salt pans not far from Marsala. We had a nice Aperitivo with Aperol Spritz and some tasty snacks.
