Itinerary Overview
I travelled down from Rio to sao Paulo. Staying there for 2 nights. After this I took the bus to Campo Grande, a 12-14 hour bus journey from Sao Paulo. I stayed in campo grande for the night and left for four day tour the next day.
I arrived not long after Rio and also some coastal stops so it felt strange to be in the city that is away from the beach. The city is very different to the touristy, exciting Rio de Janeiro with more of a business feeling to the city. I stayed in the area of Vila Madalena which is a nice area and I would recommend staying here. It was a short walk to the beco de batman alley. Here and the surrounding areas have amazing murals on display and is definitely worth having a walk around. Be prepared for the size of the city. When you look on the map you think something is close by, to then see that it's is actually an hours walk away! Definitely a place to utilise uber.
I also went to the museo do futebol which I'd recommend for any football fans. The city is not short on museums by any stretch, if you like museums you could go to 3 new ones a day for a week, or at least that's how it felt. A lot of these are down the main street Avenue Paulista which is great to get a flavour for the size of the city with high rise buildings on both sides of the street. There is also a huge shopping centre near the consolacoa metro stop. Worth a visit if your hungry or like to do some shopping.
Through getting in touch with Gil he organised my stay for the first night and then the transport to the tour. This made it quite a stress free experience. There is not a lot in Campo Grande to do but make sure you visit the shops and get a lot of water. You have to pay for water in the lodge which is expensive. The tour itself was great. Caimans everywhere, capyburras and lots of birds. Piranha fishing and horse riding are also included in the tour. I really enjoyed this trip and was able to fit in slot of experiences in a short space of time. Any nature lover would enjoy this trip. We also were looking for jaguars on the tour to no avail. However we may have heard one and seen jaguar tracks for an adult and a cub. We also swam in the river of which there were caimans also swimming which was slightly worrying but also exciting.
I was heading to bolivia after so I went by bus from the pantanal to Corumba. The bus was 2 hours late and I was on my own so this was not ideal but all was good in the end... You can also be taken back to campo grande or got to bonito which is supposed to also be a great place to visit. However I didn't have the time.
If you have the time or are going from Brazil to Bolivia this is a must-do in my opinion.
